Utorrent Windows Home Server 2011

I used to use my PC to download torrent files whilst sleeping, but since my PCs are now turned off overnight and Windows Home Server is on 24/7 it seemed logical to install uTorrent onto WHS. The other advantage of installing it on the server was that if more than one of us in the house was using uTorrent.

Utorrent Windows Home Server 2011

I have never used any of these programs but from doing a ton of research they seem amazing. Anyway, there is so much info out there I could not find exactly what I need. Can someone please point me to the place with the latest guide/tutorial on how to set these up step-by-step on whs 2011?

Would appreciate it. Also, I am running FlexRAID, I plan to download anything to one folder on the pool, and once downloading is finished move the show/movie to a different share on that same pool. So please share how you guys have done it with FlexRAID.

Do you have a separate drive to act as a 'cache' drive? IS it okay if I do it the way I described? Thanks in advance. Most of the setup and configuration is exactly the same as on Win7. The trick is that you need sabnzbd/sickbeard/utorrent to run as a service since this is most likely a headless server. I did this successfully a few months ago. Here's the bread crumb trail I left for myself (in case a reinstall is needed).

This is only about the running as a service part, not the configuration. I have sabnzbd using a non-pooled folder as the temp folder. Completed items are moved into the pool. I don't know if that's necessary since I don't remember why I did that ( I have ~200g non-pooled going to waste). Sabnzbd as a service And my notes I left for myself, partially or fully taken from that link. WHS 2011 will NOT let you use port 8080 - use anything else (e.g. 8085) Downloaded the EXE to Windows Home Server 2011 and install as normal through RDP.

It will also install an icon on your desktop and in the start menu - for NO reason should you ever run Sabnzbd from these icons and I would recommend deleting them. Next we need to open up our command prompt and create two services, one for sabnzbd's exe and one for the 'helper' dependencies. Wema Fuel Gauge Manual Arts.

Cd /d 'C: Program Files (x86) SABnzbd' SABnzbd-service.exe -f D: sabnzbd --server 0.0.0.0:8080 install SABnzbd-helper.exe install (((This will install the dependency service))) Go into services manager in windows and just open the SABnzbd service NOT the helper service. Go to the login tab, and add an account that has write permission to the download drive we pointed the service to earlier. Next make sure the service is running automatically, you do not have to change anything in the helper service. Back to the command prompt - input 'net start SABnzbd' without the quotes. We start this from the command prompt in case there is an error so we can debug it. Next (Very important) since adding the program sabnzbd.exe to the firewall rules will not allow us access to the web interface we need to open just the port we chose before.

Click start and then in the search box type firewall the click 'Windows Firewall with Advanced Security' then click 'InboundRules' then 'Add Rules'. A window will open asking for the new Rules name, use what you like here then Profile=Any - Action=Allow - Program=Any (Very important) - TCP - 8080 for the port. Now you shold be able to connect from any computer on your network. Now all we have to do to finish configuring SABnzbd is we need to login from a web browser on any PC on the network.

So in this case, input your login and pass and the main cue screen should be displayed. Click on configure and set up the rest of the information.
